Thank you for visiting the BGFD website. Our organization is composed of paid staff, interns, and volunteers. Our roster
currently boasts 70 members; mainly volunteer staff. I would like to thank all the members of the Blooming Grove Fire
Department for their hard work and dedication.
We strive to provide our community with the best fire and emergency medical services. I encourage the residents of the
community to visit our station and see first hand the accomplishments of our staff.

Chief’s Safety Message
Are you ready for a winter storm?
Winter weather will soon be upon us. I would like to take this opportunity to
remind you to refresh your storm prepardedness plan. Winter storms can cause
wide-spread damage, delays, and power disruptions. If you lose power, call Alliant
Energy at 1-800-ALLIANT (800-255-4268). Repair crews rely on phone calls from
customers to pinpoint problems. Some power companies, such as Alliant Energy,
allow customers to report power outages via smartphone apps.
Also remember if you are using a generator, fireplace, or wood stove that there
needs to be enough outside ventilation. Don’t use gas appliances to improperly heat
your home and be sure to properly ventilate gas-fired space heaters to avoid carbon
monoxide (CO) poisoning. Remember you can’t see or smell CO. Be sure you have
a battery operated CO detector. CO poisoning can be fatal. Symptoms of CO
poisoning include flu-like symptoms, such as headaches, dizziness, sleepiness,
confusion, and nausea. If you suspect CO poisoning, GET OUT IMMEDIATELY and
call 9-1-1.
Assemble a storm safety kit
1.) A charged cell phone or wired home phone (Remember cordless phones do not
work in power outages)
2.) Flashlight and supply of fresh batteries
3.) Self-powered AM/FM NOAA weather radio
4.) Fire Extinguisher
5.) First Aid Kit
6.) Clothing and blankets
7.) Food and water (Most people need at least 1/2 gallon of water to drink each day)
8.) Essential medications, baby items and food for pets
